Hi Enthusiasts!
Hope you’ve been enjoying your reading, viewing, collecting, playing, engaging in with your preferred pop culture go to. Quick Geelong Comic & Toy Fair update.
GEELONG COMIC & TOY FAIR! Sunday, October 13
“Comic AND Toy Fair” you say??! Yes, we have altered the fair name to better honestly represent what we offer at our Fair. Our sellers primarily have a strong representation of comics and toys and we want the community to have a clearer understanding of what we have on offer. At a glance, hopefully people would know to expect not only Comics and Toys but Trading Cards, Funko Pops, Books, Video games, DVDs, art, hot wheels and a whole lot more.
We had a great reception with Fair # 1 last March, lots of patrons and great feedback from all. We had sellers new and old and they were all excited to come back and build on what we’ve all started. So we’re going again!
GEELONG COMIC & TOY FAIR # 2. We’re locked and loaded for Sunday, October 13 and we’re going bigger and better! More sellers, more stock, more activities.
“The Rebranding”
With a new name, we need a new logo. We wanted to up our game, so we outsourced the work to professionals and Novak Digital Studios took the job. Nathan from NDS engaged with us to take some of our original concepts and tailored something new, fresh, and full of colour to better showcase the fun and flavour of our community. You’ll soon see our new logo on posters and brochures scattered around Geelong and specialty stores around Greater Melbourne.
We’re forever grateful for Nathan and Novak Digital Studios for their assistance and what is, hopefully, a lasting legacy with this Fair going forward.
Upcoming Fairs & Cons!
Is there such a thing as too many Cons…? It IS getting more and more difficult to land on a date that doesn’t have SOMETHING already happening on the date I’ve earmarked for us here in Geelong. But as we build, we’ll become a staple amongst the Con / Fair calendar. Having said that, there is some terrific Fairs and Cons comic up that is worth your time if your jonesing for some cool gear.
Vintage & Modern Toy Fair, Caulfield, Sunday 11th August
This may very well be the biggest Toy Fair in the state and it is a rippa! Over 250 seller tables full of toys, comics and more. This is a must-see for any collector or hobbyist. The guys Andrew & Will that run the show over there have built something spectacular and I’m incredibly grateful for their willingness to help promote our humble fair here in Geelong. Check it out!

Bendi-Con 2024, Bendigo, Sunday 25th August
The Bendigo pop Culture Expo has been getting bigger and better for years and is a true pop culture experience to rival any of the major Con’s out there. Heaps of vendors, artists, fan groups, cosplay and panel chats with industry experts. This is a must do for me each year.

Melbourne Comic & Toy Fair, Reservoir, Sunday 22nd September
Over 120 Vendors spread over 180 stalls across 4 basketball courts with everything you’d expect from a ‘Comic & Toy Fair’! It’s quite a trip from Geelong, but it is full of heaps of great stuff. Great way to engage with vendors who have their own online stores, etc.

How cool is Geelong??!
2 new stores have opened in town you have GOT TO check out! Both have cool toys, cool clothes, cool music and cool vibes! Check these places out and say ‘hi’!
Retroarcheology - 90 Ryrie St
Ed and Kelly have ‘gone solo’, moving from a stall space at The Garage Geelong on Pakington St to 90 Ryrie St, Geelong VIC 3220. Great store, great set up, I could quite comfortably live there!
Cathartic Vintage - 4 Malop St
Pre-loved clothes and sneakers, retro sports gear, records, games and more! The great team here have also shifted from a stall space at the mill Market and entered the Geelong retail space. Very cool space, great set up.
Tales of interest!
I’ve written stuff on a website I’ve all but abandoned, which I’ll slowly begin to ramp up again.
Here is a quick, little something I researched that you may not have known but you do now. 😊
Spotlight on...
Hugo Hercules – The First Super-Hero
A look from the VERY start of the age of the 'Super-Hero'. First appearing in the Chicago Tribune in 1902, Hugo Hercules is widely regarded as the first ‘Super-Hero’. No costume or cape, Hugo got around in civvies, going about his way and helping out when the need crossed his path. He only lasted 5 short months, but was briefly re-introduced in Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
